Latest RUMOR has said that CP Rail has placed a possible order for GMs new SD89 locomotive? Thsi strikes me as odd becuase they already have the SD9043 loco, that is 200HP less than the SD89, is there a better motor iun terms of fuel comsuption or something?

Whatcha think about this?

Happy Railroading!

Would not hold my breath on any of the rumor department, would be considering the units to be SD90's (either the 43MAC) or the H series 6000)

SD89 would not fall in the GM series, as if the 89 is 200 more than the 9043, then, what happened to the SD80 which was rated at 5000hp

The loco has been built, the bigger question is it to come? I don't think it will-but ya never know!'

The SD80's were a prelude to the 90 series. They were specific to Conrail. But for a SD89, maybe it's a V12 version of the V16 H series motor - similar to the GP59/GP60 models, etc?

What we are looking at is indeed a 12cyl H engine. The pluses would be. better fuel consumption and less maintance. It would be a little better than the SD9043MAC-G in fuel effecency and HP which most likely will make the unit attractive to the bean counters.
