Is SD40-2 #3242 still in service and does it have the We Will Deliver slogan in black letters on the long hood? A picture would be apreciated.

Up trace shows UP 3242 Departing Barrington, IL at 21:41 tonight, and scheduled to arrive 03:52 Tuesday morning at Bluearth, MN.

Looking at my roster and renumber scheme, this series of SD40-2s will not be renumbered, so they probably will only be repainted at time of major service.

Sorry, I looked but couldn't find a picture of this loco.

Hey Corey, what's this "UP trace" thing. I take it that it traces UP locomotives, and their departures/destinations. WHat is it exactly, and where could I get it. It would be a good help since UP runs trains through my home town of Milwaukee.

The link to UP's Public Equipment Trace is: my.uprr.com/pub/pet (http://my.uprr.com/pub/pet)
Using the equipment identification (it traces freight cars also) such as UP3242 or SP9820, it gives you the equipment's latest location and destination (if a destination is assigned). I recently used it to trace the progress of the Engineering specila with UP6936.

Kevin is exactly right. It is pretty much the AEI tag readers available to all the public. You can read anything that has passed a reader on the system. So, if there is a CSX loco on the system, you can trace it. BNSF - trace it, DTTX - trace it. You get the picture.

All you need to follow a train is a "trace car", which in Kevin's case was UP 6936 (actually a loco). You can use a loco, but there is no guarantee the power won't change on you. That's why I recommend a car if you're tracing a train. For those specific locos, just put em in!!
