CN Georgetown September

Some more pictures of CN activity around Georgetown. The bridge was built in 1857 by the Grand Trunk Railway. This 768 foot-long bridge is supported on limestone piers, 112 feet in height. It was completed at a cost of $500,000, and for more than 120 years it has carried all the rail traffic passing through Georgetown.

Thats a great picture Robin . I noticed that the first car behind the power is a GT high-cube :D

That bridge was built in 1857 , but did it cost half a million back then :eek: :confused: . That was alot of cash back then :D

Thats a good chunk of cash now :D

The bridge is a real bottleneck as it is single track. There is double track leading to it and leaving it. It is a case of the dispatcher chosing who has priority I guess. The abutment is built to handle another bridge but at todays prices it would take a many millions to build. GO commuter service also uses the bridge so it is a favourite fan watching place
