Around here it's really common to see 2 SD70MACs on the front and 1 shoving...

Well today i happened to spot a loaded train heading south with 1 unit on the front and 2 MACs facing each other on the rear shoving! Anyone else seen one of these? I didn't have the digital camera on me so i couldn't get no pics...

I was in Galesburg, IL, and I saw a loaded coal train with two in front, and two pushing. A railroad worker said BNSF was trying something new with the locomotives on the front and on the back. I suppose it's more common in the mountains to see this. But otherwise, I don't see any BNSF here in Milwaukee. (I don't see many Broncos games here in Milwaukee either http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif )

What's that?

Sorry, gotta go!

here on bnsf's mainline across southern Iowa between 50 & 75% of coal tains have one mac in the lead and one pushing. I don't know if they come from Alliance,Ne. or if they are switched in Lincoln, Ne. before heading on east.

To my knowledge, Alliance to Lincoln is 1+1...and from Lincoln east (St. Joe line and Omaha line) is still 1+1. I beleive at KC another is added at the front though.

The only coal trains that I've seen leaving Alliance with just 1 engine up front and 1 on the rear, were trains with KCS 44AC's most of the time . Most of the trains had 2 (with dpu )or with 3(no
DPU)

Everything I see leaving Galesburg Is usually 2 pulling and none on the rear except for the rare occasions.

We are training here at CN on how operate these BN coal trains that come here out of Chicago , if I ever get one I think I will just ISOLATE that rear unit :D

It would look really strange to see one unit at the front, and two pushing! Then again, I think any train in the US looks strange with only one unit at the front, but I have only seen trains in the mountains in Ca.

I'm in upper MI here, and i don't even see trains with one up front. WC allwasy seems to have 2 up front on short log trains...
