Your photo of the window on 8889 has me wondering. It appears this was modified at some time. Am wondering what happened. Possibly repaired due to an accident?

Boxcab, most EMD std cabs seem to have the plating either side of the windows, it's just it doesn't show up so well in most shots! smile.gif

I *presume* that having a separate bit of metal there is to let them access the side window opening mechanisms?

Martyn-

What has me wondering, is that the paint does not have the same oxidized appearance as that of surrounding metal. As if they'd not been on the engine it's entire life. And those particular sheets look as though they don't fit quite as well.

This unit carries number 8889. Wasn't it's sister 8888 the famous runaway unit?

Boxcab E50 I do believe you are correct that # 8888 was the famous CSX runaway!
