ABANDONED BROOKLYN STREET TRACKAGE

I have been driving in this area for 18 years, since I went to work for the City.
This is what's left of the old abandoned JAY STREET CONNECTING RAILROAD over in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn along the waterfront.
Anyone looking to do some abandoned trackage, or someone who wants to do operating street tracks, well.........check this out!!!!!!!
I love this area! Thank goodness those tracks haven't been completely paved over. And let me tell you those streets are R-O-U-G-H!!!!!!!
See tracks vanish into sidewalks, buildings and blacktop.
Plenty of "cobblestone running too". See crossovers and switch controls buried in the street!

Hey Johnny T,

This is a great link to the past of NYC railroading. I have bookmarked it and plan to go through the site at my leisure. The first sets of pictures I looked at were quite good and I like the running narrative and background that the author provides.

As a matter of fact, I saw a lot of trains today!
I rode the Long Island Railroad out to Hicksville where my buddy picked me up and took me out to his model RR club in Farmingdale.
(THE WEST ISLAND MODEL RR CLUB/ALLEGHENY AND WESTERN RR).
Man, I saw the LIRR, Amtrak and Atlantic and Western. Lots of Genesis units, bi-level cars and lots and lots of electrics.
A good day of railroading and model railroading!

I agree with Ed. This site will take more than one visit to enjoy to the fullest. Model railroaders should also find this site as a good source of details for an urban setting. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Well thanks!
Not only is it something cool from my hometown here, but it's the most up-close shots of street running I've seen!
I've driven and walked all over that stuff.
It's hard to believe that it hasn't all been paved over.
