Does anybody have info on the "Big Easy Steam Train"? It runs a 2-hour round trip behind a 1901 Baldwin steamer out of Belle Chasse, LA, about 20 miles southeast of New Orleans. (no website :( )
Thanks, Hank

Hank, about a week ago over on the Chaski forum someone reported that the operation went defunct, following a $2 million loss. That's a little hard to swallow considering how long (short?) they operated. Anyway I have seen other reports confirming the end of operations. :(

I'm a member on the Railspot forum over at Yahoogroups, and it has been confirmed the Big Easy Steam Train is no more. That SP steamer they sent from Texas didn't get much of a chance to run. From what I've been told, the scenery wasn't too much to look at. Don't know if that's true or not, but I'll bet you with high gas prices this summer, ridership woulda been down.
I haven't heard what will happen to the locomotive and cars.
