My son & I are riding the Texas Eagle to Ft Worth during Easter vacation renting a car for our 2 1/2 day stay. Besides goingto the Ranger game Fri nite and visiting some garden railroads Sat we had planned some railfanning Thurs afternoon and most of all day Friday, besides Tower 55, can anyone suggest any other good railfanning locations? I like bridges & trestles and my son LOVES Amtrak. Thanks

Welcome to Ft.Worth Fred. I'll look and see if the "Trantula" (old steam train is running here. It runs from south Ft.Worth up to Grapevine Texas, but you can stop off at the Stock Yards (Tourist spot now). Rides are round trip. I'll post tomorrow.

Fred,

The Tarantula's website is www.tarantulatrain.com (http://www.tarantulatrain.com) if you need more info. The steam locomotive is currently out of service and supposedly beginning its overhaul work, but the last two times I've been the train has been pulled by a faithful old GP-9, owned by the FW&W.

It runs weekends, and the train runs from Grapevine to the Stockyards.

Have a good one!

Hi,
I go to FtWorth huntings the bis steel Monsters at lest once a week, living in the DFW area thats is easy.
Well if your coming into FtWorth on the Eagle you'llgo tru Tower 55 then do a back up [if comong from th north],straight in from the south, but still passed Tower55,underneath all the Highways :(
If you enjoy the UP go west on I30 to the south Universtcity exit and go RIGHT.At the light trun right,it's an angled street so be carefull,at the first left take it[Rogers road]right beside the UP's Centennial Yard shops.
BNSF lives on the north side of FtWorth .Find the ngo up Main Street[past the StockYards]contiue north past Mecham Airport.Small BNSF yard, keep going north, now in Sagnaw more BNSF,although the nmain BNSF action is further north if you can find Hasselt Tx off of route 156 you can find the BNSF yard at Alliance yard.
Almost eveything is ground level :(If you have time i'd get Altamont press's Southwest region Timtable and decent map.Altamont Press can be found on the web. www.altamontpress.com (http://www.altamontpress.com)
Have fun email me if you need more info... smile.gif
