OK, class, I'm gonna be gone for the holidays to visit parents (her mother and my mother) and our respective siblings. Along the way, I plan on doing a little railfanning.
Any of you folks doing the same? If so, whaddaya say we post what we saw, chased and/or shot (obnoxious in-laws not permitted
http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif ), and when we get back together in the new year/decade/century/millennium, we share our stories?
Until then, Merry Christmas, and remember the Reason for the season.

I'm back- hope everyone had a good Christmas & New Year! And I hope the good folks affected by the ice storms & subsequent power outages recover soon.
On my way east I went over Vail & Eisenhower passes on I-70, and passing Silver Plume, CO
I spotted three Whitcomb center-cab switchers on the Georgetown Loop RR. The line also has at least one narrow-gauge Shay.
UP's former KP line across Kansas is busy thanks to the rebuilding UP did- I spotted several coal trains between Oakley and Salina
plus at least one manifest freight.
The railroads in Arkansas, Texas & Oklahoma were as hard-hit by the ice storms as everybody else. On the UP, the signals were dead, and trains crawled up the ex-MKT line in Oklahoma at around 25 MPH, watching out for downed trees & power lines on the tracks.
I heard from friends in Arkansas that Amtrak's Texas Eagle was halted due to the ice. All over this area, very few folks had electricity, and it's gonna be a long time before everyone's reconnected.
Most of the rest of my time was spent visiting relatives, and making the 16-hour haul back to Colorado.
How was your holiday?

Yes, the Northbound Eagles were as late as 13 HRS. here in Lincoln. 12:45AM was the latest I saw. Supposed to get here at 11:50 AM. Must of been a real mess down south!
