Railroad Equipment on Display

In many towns (at least in the U.S.) there is some sort of railroad equipment on display. In my hometown in Kansas, Santa Fe Steam Engine 1880 is on display in a downtown park. (A picture is available at http://parkengines.railfan.net/KS/images/pages/ATSF1880.html - I do not have permission to post the actual photo on this site.) Many other towns in Kansas have a steam engine on display in a park and many small towns have a caboose on display.

It would be interesting to hear about railroad equipment on display in your area and a picture posted if possible.

These monuments to yesterday would make great topics of discussion.

I think 1522 needs a little brother! This loco looks in pretty good shape, could it be restored to operating condition? What is the wheel arrangement? Is it a 4-6-2?

It's a Prairie Class, I believe 2-6-2. It has been in the park since the 1950's. I played around it as a child. The SF donated it to the City of Newton, Kansas. There was someone that wanted to restore it to running condition a few years ago if the city would give it to them. The city wanted to do that. It would have meant it would have left town but a local group fought that to keep it in town. It has been welded shut and all of that and I believe there is an asbestos problem of some sort. For something like that to be restored would be a MAJOR deal. The poor thing hasn't moved so much as an inch for nearly 50 years.
