Some of y'all may remember around Christmas time I was debating the pros and cons of the Nikon Coolpix 995 and the Canon Powershot G2 digital cams. At that time both cameras were about the same price and I felt that Canon advantages out weighted the Nikon's - well alas, the Canon was on backorder and has only come into supply in Australia this past couple weeks - and at a NEW HIGHER PRICE. Yikes!
Well, Nikon is discontinuing the 995(it is a year old after all) - a new Coolpix is to be announced next week. And as a bonus, the price on the 995's still in stock in Sydney fell dramatically this week. Rather than continue to 'chase' technology, I opted to view the new low price tag on the 995 as a deal and I bought one today smile.gif
Now as soon as the battery charges... Oh, wait, I am at work. I'll post some pictures in the next few days :D

Congratulations, Rob!
I saw an advert for the 995 selling at AU$1549 - not a bad deal at all. That was what I paid for the 950 with 48Meg card and reader in HK 2 years ago (no Australian import duty or sales tax!).
Look forward to seeing some of your shots when you get used to it.
BTW, I have a few more water shots of sunset and fireworks I (finally) downloaded off the cards from NYE, if interested.

1427 AUD delivered to my office smile.gif GST inclusive. Hard to argue with that.
It came with a 16meg card - 64 meg cards appear to be around 100AUD, so I'll probibly get one of them soon...
EDIT - might as well give the guy a plug - he ships to the USA and with the AUD where it is, some of y'all in the US might be able to get some good deals:

Hmmmm.... would YOU buy a used camera from THIS guy?
Nice shot, Rob. Somehow, I don't think it's the camera Sparky is worried about! :D

Rob,
Welcome to the digital world smile.gif The prices continue to drop on the cameras, as well as the accessories. If I am not mistaken, I saw a 64 mb flash card for $19.95 US (after rebate) this past weekend in the newspaper ads. (I got a 256mb CF card and love it!)
