Well....I got my digital camera. Now my computer won't download anything from it. The Samsung Camera support site says that there is a problem in Windows 98 Second Edition that renders the Universal Serial Port inoperative. I have been to Microsoft's help site, but don't know enough about this to make any sense of it. Anyone experience similar problems? If so, what did you have to do to fix it? If you respond, please do so in computer moron language so that I might understand, cause I printed off about 30 pages of so-called "help" from Micro-soft that I might as well line a bird cage with for all I can understand of it

Welcome to the wonderfull world of 'puters. OK, click on this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q240075
Scroll down the page until you find the following lines:
English:
Download 240075up.exe now
Download and install.
That's one of the things I like about my Sony. Just stick the floppy in the "A" Drive and away you go.

The camera that you bought, is it a memory stick or multimedia? I too just purchased a digital camera. I went out and bought a reader for the memory stick which is what Sony Cybershot cameras use. I went to the mfg. website and downloaded a driver which was very easy to do. I now just stick the memory stick into the reader and download.
It's recommended to buy a reader no matter what digital camera you buy in order to save wear and tear on the camera and battery life.
A lot of the softwear these days need drivers to run on all the different types of windows. My windows 98 computer needed the driver while my windows XP didn't. Like the man said; welcome to the world of computers. By the way, does anybody know when we'll be able to start uploading pictures on Trainboard? I've been seeing that "Coming Soon" sign for some time now. Forgot to mention that I don't have any problem using the reader on my USB port on my windows 98 computer.

I just plug my Fuji camera into the usb port, and have never had any problems. I use Windows98SE.
Although Matt tried it on his, but it would not work (and at that time he had the same set-up as me

Believe it or not, I downloaded that very page but I'm not sure if it installed itself or if I have to install it. All I know is that since I downloaded it my A (floppy disc) drive won't work. :confused  mad: Not sure what's going on there because as far as I know, the floppy drive has absoloutly nothing to do with anything even remotely related to the USB port. Oh....the memory card is multi-media.

A lot of things from MS are self installing. One way to find out is find the file and try to install it. Also on a lot of those fixes, you get a window telling you to reboot. Does the "A" drive work if you insert a disc, double click on "My Computer", then double on "A" Drive???

I just went to the Samsung Camera site. In the support section they have a patch for the USB problem.

Well....After all the fuss and three weeks later. The problem was that HP went to all the trouble to put a USB and Serial port in the front of my computer, complete with a nice sticker pointing out the fact that the ports were there. BUT DIDN'T INSTALL ANY WIRING TO EITHER ONE! Out of sheer desparation, a tech support guy from Samsung told me to try the USB port at the rear of the computer. When I did, low and behold WE GOT PICTURES!
Absoloutly amazing........My advice. Don't buy ANYTHING made by Hewlett Packard.

I have a couple of HP desktops, including my main one with Win98SE. It too has a front page USB port, but mine works fine, as I have downloaded thousands of photos through it. In the wonderful world of computers, sometimes it boils down to simple things, such as drivers or patch cords.
Whatever the problem, I am glad you got your camera to work. So where are the pictures?? tongue.gif
