Gats mentioned flash in another thread. But what about other kinds of lighting? Any suggestions, please? I was thinking of photofloods, maybe, but I know nothing about them http://www.trainboard.com/frown.gif

As I just said in the thread on digital cameras, I use an old 8mm camera photo flood and bounce the light off of the ceiling. It is far too harsh for putting directly on the subject. Many pro type photographers will use two floods to avoid shadows or to control them. I just want decent lighting and a decent photo primarily for web use.

Alan,
Have a look through this site regarding lighting - http://www.photo.net/photo/tutorial/light
You may be able to get an idea of which would be best for your circumstances.
I use natural light with white cardboard 'reflectors' for most of my model shots. I have yet to get into lighting for indoor shots. Next toy I want to get is a 5x or 8x monocular for the Nikon. http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif

May I suggest that you have a look at the traiN'ternet site which has several pages on model photography, with a lot of tips.

Do so, Alan. Jean-Louis' pages are very informative without being over-technical.

I just had a good look at Jean-Louis' photo lighting pages. Excellent!!!! Very clear and concise http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif
Now all I need is a finished part of my layout to photograph my models on http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif
Experiments will follow . . . .

I saw a photo made with an ordinary film camera. The guy used one of those Halogen lights on an adjustable stand we use when working down in the pit at night. It lit up the undercarriage like sun light. Could one of those be used for layout shots?
