Narrow guage Does it really work

Hello, ( New to the board )
I am in the process of stating back up in model railroading and have always loved the looks of narrow guage. I am in the process of trying to figure out a layout in a spare garage. I can start with a 12X10 area. I have over the years collected several NG locomotives and cars. Additionally, I have purchased a Lenz DC system. I am now having second thought because I have heard HOn3 does not run well it's too small etc etc. Am I setting myself up for disappointment Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks Lee

I'm not a narrow gauger. But follow it in chats, groups, magazines, etc. I don't believe that I've heard HOn3 has any more problems than other track widths.

Probably the same principles apply to any scale. Well laid track. Kept clean. Loco's properly gauged, weighted, broken in, lubricated. Some people report sour experiences as they've not been careful with these aspects.

Lenz is excellent DCC. So you're in good shape there.

Lee,you'll hear the same BS about N scale and it works just fine. :D

The biggest problem I can see with HOn3 is cost ,seems to me that most of it is brass :(

My personal choice for narrow gauge is On30.Its reasonably priced will run on regular HO track and runs very well.

Yup .. and I understand that HOn30 runs well on N gauge track as well. Anybody tried that?

Hey thanks . Agree that the cost of HOn3 is rediculous. The on3 idea sounds good. I have a few brass engines that I have collected over the years, believe me they were alot cheaper 10-15 years ago. It will be interesting making these old guys DCC compatable. Again thanks It is amazing comming to a site where people are interested in MRR. Looks like I will have to be extra careful with the track work.
