The first annual Detroit Toledo & Ironton modeler's meet was held today at the Quality Inn in Napoleon, Ohio. There were, by my estimations, about thirty modelers in attendance. The day started out at nine this morning with a few hours to wander around and talk with other modelers. On hand for the morning was the last agent to work for the GTW (who took over the DT&I in the early '80's) in Napoleon before they ceased operations here in 1988. Also on hand was a local gentleman who had recently aquired an ex-DT&I speeder car and was working to restore it. He had it with him and fired it up for all to see. In the afternoon, participants toured the former DT&I roundhouse in town, which is slated to be torn down soon. The former DT&I freight house, which has been moved to the county fairgrounds and restored was open for tour. At 4pm, the slide shows kicked off with a feature show from Jim Hediger. I left before it was all over, although the party was dying when I left about an hour ago. The modelers in attendance decided that next years meet should be down south in Springfield. Hope to see some of you there!
