Here is one of our club NTRAK modules depicting Stafford, Texas in 1951. Court Hardware, the Post Office and Tritico's Grocery all burned down in 1953. The Cash building is still there.

I have been working on soundchipping a couple of locos this week, and it was perfect timing when my Champ decals arrived in the post. There's still some work to do, but here's a first look at them

First the Bachmann 4-8-2, fitted with Soundtraxx LC decoder.

http://www.railimages.com/albums/album228/afw.sized.jpg

http://www.railimages.com/albums/album228/afx.sized.jpg

http://www.railimages.com/albums/album228/afy.sized.jpg

http://www.railimages.com/albums/album228/afz.sized.jpg

Some of the loco details are a bit generic and differ from pictures of the Soo Line locos I've seen, but it was the only road I could choose that got into Chicago, albeit from the Northwest. However, I have seen pics of Soo locos on BRC trackage in South Chicago, presumably on transfer duties.

Next up is the Athearn 4-6-2 Pacific, again with LC decoder in the tender. I had to add pickups to the tender to improve running qualities and ended up in Grand Trunk Western service - a good one to choose, as Elmore Yard is in South Chicago, near Blue Island.

http://www.railimages.com/albums/album228/age.sized.jpg

http://www.railimages.com/albums/album228/agf.sized.jpg

Again there is still some work to do - handrails, numberboards, move bell to front of smokebox, etc but it is a quite close representation, from the pics I have seen.

A quartet of early diesels led by RSD5 as SP2885 (and GP9/RS11/GP9 black widows) pass western San Antonio on the way to pull the evening grain train to Sugarland, Texas. SP2885 is one of the few RSD5s to be painted in bloody nose colors.

The unit you see here is one from the manufacturers site. We are using the same equipment call a Desec. It is operated remote control and carries turnouts under itself and postions them on site within a few millimetres.

This weekend I broke out my fantasy LNE U23B locomotives and ran them for awhile. Now let’s take you back to somewhere in the mountains of Pennsylvania circa 1970. A Western Maryland F7A and F7B are winding down their service handling a train of empties. They happen to pass a LNE general merchandise train headed by a couple of U23Bs.

There's a song that is played now & then on KHYI-FM (95.3, The Range) whose name escapes me, but I remember the refrain:

"Before the big trucks and the highway,
The world came down the tracks in my day.
Life was much easier in my prime,
Back before they tore up the railroad line."

I can listen to this station on the 'Net (www.khyi.com), and I'll have to call the station & request the song.

And kudos to the man who brought us "Alice's Restaurant". It's good to know he's lending a hand to his fellow artists.

"Railroad Line" is by the Gibson Borthers and the CD title is "Bona Fide". I love the Range. Any station that plays a mandatory train song when one rolls by the station is definately high on the coolness scale. And it doesn't hurt that they only play both kinds of music: country and western.
