Robin, going to post this here since it is a completely new topic.
In the previous thread regarding ideas, I had mentioned I would coordinate the database of industries and car exchanges. What I would need from everybody is the following:
1) Industry Name
2) Commodities Shipped
3) Commodities Received
4) Spur capacity
If you have worked out the number of carloads in/out, then you can send me that as well. If the industry onle receives things by rail, then it ships "empties", and the opposite if it only ships by rail.
Also, be sure to note any specialized cars needed by the industry (hoppers, covered hoppers, stock cars, oil cars). Some are obvious (coal mines, stockyards), while others may need some specialized equipment.
You can post your info here or send me an e-mail, with the subject: NARA Industry Database.
Then I'll get this rolling ASAP. Maps of where everybody's layouts are could help too!

I wounder how many man hours and web space it would take to create a database of all NARA road's fleets, Exchanging or not.
Just a (crazy) idea

Man-hours won't be a problem :D and the entire databse won't be online as a database, but the industry list will probably go up for each RR. Not exactly sure how I'm going to implement the task, but I know what I have to do. :D

Here's an industry list I made up when I first posted about the INNR. I don't know the spur capacity yet, as they layout isn't built yet.

Here is my first pass for the MAT which is still under construction.
Starting with mines.
Coal is mined at Cardwell and feeds a power generating plant at Abercom and to the LAKESHORE power generating plant at Maberly.
Coal is also used by the steel mill and various foundries at Abercom.
Potash is mined near Harris and some potash is shipped to a ferilizer plant at Maberly.
The blance of the potash is shipped to Tayside where it is loaded onto ships destined for China.
Ore mining takes place near Fairmont and ore is shipped to the ISCOR steel mill at Abercom.
Oil comes from wells in the Bannon area and is shipped to the ORION refinery at Abercom. Refined oil and gas gets shipped to various industries on the layout. Many still to be constructed.
Logging takes place at Justice and is shipped to Drummond where there are sawmills and a paper plant. Shakes and shingles are also produced here much of which is exported to the USA. Paper goes to various industries at Maberly and Tayside.
Harris is in the middle of wheat growing country so the wheat come to the grain elevators at Harris where it is loaded onto grain cars some of which come to Maberly for domestic use and some goes to Tayside for the export market which is mainly China.
Specific industries are still to be created but what I have here was the main reason for the creation of the MAT
