As a person more on the RailFan side of TrainBoard I'm interested in which of these forums you find the most information and why in your work that "Isn't" Model related.

Let me ask the question differently. Which of these forums helps you the most in your modeling efforts and why?

I'd sorta have to say "none" but I guess I do peak into fallen flags. I'm afraid I'll learn too much and want to do a more historical layout. I might start caring about how many windows on my cabs or who had dynamic brakes or not. smile.gif

The results so far to me are extremely interesting and not what I had thought would be occuring either. I think this kind of feedback to the Railfan Moderators and Administrators is HUGE as that tells us which Railfan forms are also a benifit to you the modelers also. I would assume this is becuase in these forums we tend to have a ton of historical photos and related information that helps with modeling.

WOW!!!!!!! 5 more votes and one Flag stands well ahead of all others. This is just amazing. Can't wait to hear from all the other modelers have to say with there votes.

Lately, I have been more a railfan photographer than a modeler, but I post in nearly all these forums periodically.
I do use the fallen flags forums a lot, posting rare finds, and gleaning for proto info on stuff like Rio Grande.

We have a tight race for the #3 perference between UP, BNSF, and Narrow Gauge forums but the leader is still clearly ahead as that forum most used by modelers.

Hard to believe there are no CSX, Class II, and/or International modelers voting yet.

Even the Cattle Car has one vote now graemlins/wink.gif graemlins/wink.gif graemlins/wink.gif graemlins/wink.gif graemlins/wink.gif

I am modeling mostly in the 1950's and I find that the fallen flags give me the best info, mainly for the Milw. Road, but I do check out most of them if something catches my eye. graemlins/220.gif

Feedback request:

What is it about these Railfan forums that you find the most useful in your Modeling needs?

What would you like to see more of topic wise?

Being one of the Fallen Flags moderators and seeing there is a strong usage in these Railfan Fallen Flag forums I would like to know what topics are helpful to make the site even better.

Since I model Frisco, I stay with Fallen Flags (BTW, I'm also a member of just about every Frisco forum out there).

I also like how the shortlines and Class II run, so I'm not afraid to use what I see on these lines in my modeling. Interesting that I'm the only one who uses Class IIs as an influence....what's wrong with, say, Iowa Interstate, Kyle, MRL, IC&E and the others- are they chopped liver?? graemlins/headscratch.gif

I like info that is useful in modeling. The Espee forum on Yahoo has a wealth of information, but a lot of it is not pertinent to modeling. F.I., San Francisco 5th St, (or something) is discussed as it was the corporate office of Espee, and important for historical purposes. Not so important for modeling. I would rather know which engines had five chime horns.

Darren, Getting back to your question about fallen flags. I don't see any changes that have to be made to it, it's great. Please just don't down size it like it was about a year ago, that was awful. I was so glad when it got back to being all by itself again!! As far as adding anything nothing comes to mind right now. Thanks!! graemlins/220.gif

Andy,

That's great feedback. I too didn't like the past consolidation of Fallen Flags but it was a reaction to the lack of "Replies" in these Fallen Flag forums as this made the Administrators feel these forums were of little interest to those Posting here at TrainBoard. Enough of us got together to get the Fallen Flags back to it's current state. I don't think any of us new these forums were used by the Modelers this much which is why we are in "Shock" of the current results shown so far. As a Railfan of historical roads (Mainly D&H) and a moderator here at TrainBoard I'm very interested in how the membership uses TrainBoard and since so many are Modelers I was looking to see how you all use the Railfan forums since you don't post much there.

What do you look for in the Railfan forums???
