This weekend is the grocery store trek. My daughter has cheerleading practice on Sunday, her competition is next Saturday. She will be playing Silent Night on the flute on Sunday as part of the morning church service and this coming Tuesday is her Winter Concert at school. I also have some Christmas shopping to do. The good thing about it is that one of the stores is next to one of my favorite hobby shops.
I hope to continue working on the farm house. I have a Mantua Pure Oil tank car to finish weathering. I also am working on two Athearn 2-bay hoppers (Southern composite side, Virginian ribbed side), an Athearn B&O caboose, and a MDC/Roundhouse CNJ 2-bay covered hopper.

Can't predict what gets done this weekend. This is one of those "sneaky" modeling weekends. Specifically, this weekend I will:
"Sneak" down to the layout for a few minutes before we go get the Christmas tree.
"Sneak" down to the layout for a few minutes for a few minutes after we bring it home.
"Sneak" down to the layout for a few minutes inbetween putting it in the stand and putting on the lights.
"Sneak" down to the layout for a few minutes before I go out to get up those stupid leaves.
"Sneak" down to the layout for a few minutes inbetween getting up leaves in the backyard and the frontyard.
You know how it is... one of THOSE weekends. ;)

CHRISTMAS TREE! Thanks Kitbash you reminded me that we will be getting our tree this weekend.
Now let's see where is the stand? Oh, yeah in the basement near the workbench. Well since I have to go down there I might as well see what's on the workbench.... ;)

I started my N-scale Christmas layout which is nothing more than a 2’x4’ table with an oval and two industrial spurs. The theme is based around Micro-Trains 12 days of Christmas set. Not a lot of fancy scenery but I want to try my hand at “snow”. The town will be decked out with lights, wreaths, etc.. But with anything the formula is 2x + 1, with x equaling how long you think something will take! It should be finished by April 1. graemlins/222.gif

I got a call from the LHS, the rest of my order of ground throws has arrived, so that goes on the front burner.
I decided I'd had enough working the graveyard person's days off, so I put my seniority card on the table and waaah-waaahed, so now I work straight swingshifts. I did four months of three swings two graves, it's someone elses turn.
That means normal wknds w/o adjusting sleep schedules and will increase the productivity of the R.R. elves.
After ground throws it's on to detailing, painting, and ballasting the track. Probably a couple of weeks worth of work sessions.

Tons of homework in my video compositing class. I have a final project to shoot and edit for it. I expect I won't be doing any train anything this weekend.

I have to clean up my workbench. Also plan to take some photo's with my new Nikon D-50 and start anothet lasercut building kit.
I'm planning another expansion for the JJJ&E, a small point to point line off the mainline of the JJJ&E with room for a staging area.

Well. Dang. Weekend modeling plans just complicated. I left my office for a jobsite meeting and just got back.
On my desk is one of the new SoundTraxx Tsunami sound/mobile decoders I ordered from Tony's Trains.
Darn. So tomorrow, let's see.... put up tree? put sound in C&O Mountain steamer? put up tree? put sound in C&O Mountain steamer? put up tree? put sound in C&O Mountain steamer? put up tree? put sound in C&O Mountain steamer?
graemlins/headscratch.gif Do both.. I can do that.

Kitbash,
Trees can wait. Sound must be dealt with at once! :D If you can put the tree up first then you have more disipline than I do! graemlins/220.gif
PSG1790,
I'm looking forward to seeing the expantion on the JJJ&E! Keep us posted.

PSG1790,
I'm looking forward to seeing the expantion on the JJJ&E! Keep us posted. John:
It's still in the planning stages. The point to point will pass through several towns. That's why I've been working on so many lasercut buildings.
I've started to add some 1x8's on one side of the JJJ&E near the Fishpier and extending it alongside the mainline track. I might use it for the Shay's exclusively or for the MP 4-4-0's.
Just another piece to the puzzle. That will about do it for expansion. The staging area will be on some shelving that I use for storage that's 1x12' or so to the right of the turntable module.
It's still in the planning stages but the small point to point will be interesting and will be in the shape of a "U" with an extension off one arm of the "U" which might end up as a small yard.
The entire JJJ&E will then become "U' shaped
I lay out the track and see how it flows.I don't use software planning packages.
After 50+ years and many layouts in O and HO scale, I find it easier that way. I buy the track I think I need and go from there.
The addition will be all on one level, which will be a different concept for the JJJ&E. That way I can actually test run loco's on level track, which I haven't been able to do before except for the switching yard near the turntable.

It's great to have sound on a layout. I've used sound on the JJJ&E for 6+ plus years.
I just ordered two Tsunami decoders from Tonys, one for Shays and the second for medium steam such as the 4-8-2's and 2-8-2's. I'll use the HO Tsunami decoders on the JJJ&E which as you know is N scale.
Have fun installing those new sound decoders this weekend. You'll really enjoy the sound. It's much different than the Soundtraxx DSD decoders you already have. smile.gif graemlins/222.gif

^ Yep. It is great. And, my worst fears after getting my first engine equipped w/ sound have come true. I have to get all my engines w/ sound now. Of course, that's alot of (ouch) buckie$$$$. But.. over a little time I can get that done. I am finding when I run the layout, I tend to ignore some of the engines w/o sound in favor of those I have equpped or either purchased equpped w/ sound.
I have been up early this AM ahead of the Mrs. and gotten a jump on putting my Tsunami in. The Mountain steamer I am equpping has a vanderbuilt tender which narrows at the top. It will take the 1" speaker, but I had to fabricate a plate from sheet styene to brace the speaker under the coal load. I have also put the speaker in a baffle (water bottle cap works great) and am now waiting for the RTV to dry. Plus, the tender was somewhat on the "light" side, (Bachman Spectrum 4-8-2 C&O), so I have glued in some weights where I could get them to fit.
So, its off to get the tree while all that stuff dries and I can finish it later. I can't wait to hear this badboy.
Hope all posting their plans is finding time to get it done!!!

Kitbash:
That is a common finding once you have sound. The loco's without sound become "orphaned".

Well.. I got the Tsunami in. Sounds great! Even got the tree up too! Gonna piddle w/ the tree somemore and then head back down here to play w/ the CV's and get the whistle set where I want it. The quality of the Tsunami is pretty dang good. Worth the wait I'd say. My only comment is the volume. I have all the literature but haven't read yet where the factory sets the volume. I am going to get into the CV's and crank it up a little.
Other than that.... Kudo's to Soundtraxx.

That's exactly what they have become... run my F7 ABA lash up just because they personally, my favorite engine of all time. I am holding off putting sound in them until Soundtraxx hits the street w/ the diesel version of the Tsunami.
Wolfgang! Those are some videos' Like that RDC!

I told you I ordered two HO Tsunami decoders for the JJJ&E. One is the Shay and a second one is for the 4-8-2/2-8-2.
I'll probably get them in 3-4 weeks depending on supply flow at Tony's.
Have fun with the CV's.... smile.gif
BTW; how is the Tsunami sound compared to a Soundtraxx DSX sound only decoder?

Unfortunately no modelling plans this weekend as I'm working on the real thing. Am awaiting the arrival of a couple of cabooses to start kitbashing for my MoPac roster.

In just the very short while I have had it running, it blows the other Soudtraxx Decoders away. The quality of sound is no better than the DSX, just that the Tsunami is dang near infinitely more dynamic in what you can do with .
I am on the 'puter now downloading the user manual so I can read up on the CV's, etc. before I start putzin' around w/ it on my programming track. From what I have been reading on the screen.. this thing really packs a wallop in the "versatility" department. Unreal.
Have a good weekend all.

I received one Tsunami decoder from Tonys today. It was the medium steam decoder for the 4-8-2's and 2-8-2's.
On the wiring where do you hook up the 10 ohm resister? I haven't opened the package as yet.
I'm really looking forward to the Tsunami Shay sounds.
Thanks..
