I'm watching Design on a dime right now. They're making a bedroom for a trainobsessed 4 year old including an HO diorama. So far, they're using not a single material that we might consider "standard" from the type of foam to the ground cover, but it've very interesting.
I want the room for myself.

Maybe they were using materials that would be absolutely safe for a 4 year old to play with?
I guess that is a local TV show, since it doesn't show anywhere here in Texas that I am aware of. I would have enjoyed seeing it too.
Did you get any new ideas from it?

It's a national show on HG TV. The diorama materials weren't kid friendly. The main differences were the base was foam core and the mountains were made of that green foam used for dry floral arrangments. Then they used sand on that followed by more standard Woodland senics fair.
They also made a table for his Thomas the Tank Engine stuff. They made trees out of modeling clay and natural sponges dipped in green paint. Obviously not realistic, but more so then typical. closer to modelling.

I know, me too. It's so much more fun and cheaper then actually doing and home improvment and gardening. ;)

As a model railroader, having someone else make my layout for me defies the whole point of being a model railroader.
It's all, feel good quickie get it done home decor stuff, but it doesn't leave a lot for learning and enjoyment to have someone else do it all.
Just my two cents.

Thanks, HDTV, That's the difference!
When we retired, we decided to stay with the old steam powered analog systems that were paid for, and just coast to the end of our lives enjoying what "things" we already have.
With our huge library, we seldom watch TV any more.

We get it up here. HGTV is a cable network on basic cable in most places.

Anyone catch the name of the episode? Maybe they will re-air it and I could catch it with Tivo.

A lot of what they do on DOD is from what the homeowners have on hand. They go thru the basement/attic, shed , whatever to find things to use in their "makeover". The train was probablt dad's set from back in the day.
