Rushing Rivers

What method works best to create rushing water? I have tried just about all and am curious to see what folks like. Currently, the best and most convincing river comes from an idea I hit on accidentally. Paint the river bed the desired color. Then cut kitchen plastic wrap the length of the river. Streak appropriate paint colors along the long axis of the plastic wrap and then scrunch it up to fit inside the banks of the river. Cover this with a realatively heavy layer of Liquid Nails, moving along the long axis. Use a tooth pick to create waves and to prod the Liquid Nails into stubborn places. Use a little extra along the banks as this serves to "glue" the whole thing in place. When dry cover with Matte Gloss. One way that gave reasonable results was to use a mix of clear and white silicon sealer for bathtubs. Paint the riverbed dark, spread the silicon and mix it up, stir it or whatever. When partly cured, touch it with a smooth surface to pull up the little waves.

The two methods are very similar, since Liquid Nails is essentially a clear calk...
