One of the most avid train goers I know of, John Sing posted pics from his trip to the train show in Amherst. And hidden there in all it's glory was a couple shots of the new MTL Z Scale GP35 mechanism, sitting on top of the new MTL Z Scale sectional track system.
The show thread is here:

Look for the images labeled MT Z scale GP35

The reports I have read, say this baby runs real nice, with it's Maxon 8mm motor. The track looks real nice too, much like Kato Unitrack.
Thanks John,l :D

The motors are very small to fit between the sides of the long hood. They must be some of them high tech coreless motors. I have been told that pulse power is hard on coreless motors unless they have a substantial flywheel to moderate the effects of the pulses and prevent the windings from being dammaged. I can't tell from the photos if there are flywheels in the chassis there.

Yes, I have heard the same thing about coreless motors. I plan on using DCC, and avoiding any kind of pulse settings on my decoders. We have a group member who has one of those Fluke Scopemeters, and we will test out the decoders first, so we can program them for safe operation before installation.
If you use a regular Marklin or the special MRC 1300 pack for regular DC, you should be OK.

I have used coreless motors in scratchbuilt brass locomotives in N, HO and O scales, and have never used anything but pure DC to run them.
They run so beautifully, who needs pulses ;)

Wow! absolutely fantastic looking. This might just be the wooden stake in the heart for my N-scale trains. That track looks like it has all the potential of unitrack! Thanks for sharing the pictures. The track will be easy enough to weather and color to make it look good. Wow...I am pumped up now. Wow!!

If it comes painted in GN, I'll take two please!! Hopefully, the next thing down the line is a standard caboose!

I just made an SP&S caboose in Z Scale a couple weeks ago. It's one of the NP 24' 1200 series cabooses sold to SP&S. I have also made several other Z Scale cabooses, but not a GN one yet.
I would like to find drawings for a 25' GN wood caboose so I can build one of them. :D

I took my GN red caboose from MT and cut the section of roof off of the opposite side of the smoke stack and glued it on the center and moved the cupola back so it's alittle closer to western prototype. Atleast it's still GN. graemlins/wink.gif

I bet it looks a lot better too. It's kind of fun modifying a car to look closer to the prototype you want.
Marty Coil is Trainboard's top N Scale caboose kitbasher. I wish we could convince him to model in Z Scale, then we would see all kinds of interesting western cabooses. :D
