It finally happened. A loco and two cars fell off the track onto a concrete floor from a five foot height. Fortunately damage was minimal. A couple of broken couplers. Now I am nervous to run large trains through the pass of the Seven Sisters. This accident happened inside a tunnel. A car further back derailed and the loco was pulling on a curve and the force pulled it off the track. The track bed is about five inches wide through the tunnels. Do I rig some kind of safety net or what! Any body have any thoughts on the matter.
Thanks

Robin,How about putting a low retaining wall along the edges of the track bed.
You could possibly angle it outward so that anything that derailed would simply layover on it's side.

Precisely what I would do, Catt. The wall would only need to be about half the height of the locomotive/cars to stop them falling.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will do as you suggest as it sounds simpler than rigging a net. What a wonderful way to get different ideas. Model Railroaders are a great bunch.
Thanks

I operate on a layout with a small retaining wall, boy has it saved my back more than a few times!
However, you may not want it too too high as getting your hand in can start to get interesting.....
