Yep I just came back from the club and fulla questions..

Lubing locos... steam and diesel..
what lube do you use?
how do you apply it?
anything to steer clear of?
different manufactures need different lube?

any web pages with detailed fotos of the process??

one guy suggested a tin of WD-40, but that seemed a little dodgey to me.. you would lube everything on the loco including your hand. nice if you...

This may sound kind of off the wall but it works. I use garage door libricator. It's made purposely for garage door chains. I like it becuase it's thick but not to thick and does a REAL nice job! I use this in my air brushes also and they still work like a charm!

Make sure that you use a grease or oil that says on the label "PLASTIC COMPATABLE" some types are for metal only and will eat up plastic. Any grease/oil that meets the above will work on any engine no matter who made the engine. A little goes a long way, don't just slop it on, apply the lube where you need it to go.
I have used LABELLE Brand grease for gears and LABELLE oil for motor bearings. A tube of each lasts a long time.
Several of the guys in the local N-Scale club have used AERO-CAR Brand (not sure of spelling) and said that it is a good product.
