Anyone know where I can get un-decorated GP9 phase 1, non-dynamic/non-winter hatch shells that fit the Athearn chassis?

Your best bet would be to have a look on ebay and places like that for a lifelike proto 2000 shell, I think that should fir the Athearn chassis with a small ammount of modification.
And you should be able to get which ever phase and dynamic setup you want. smile.gif

If you use anything other than an Athearn shell on the Athearn chassis, you will have to replace the motor. Athearn's GP9 shells have hoods that are wider than prototype to accomodate their motors. Shells with correct-width hoods will not fit over the Athearn motors.

Not with the newer motors- I've modified the chassis of an Athearn GP9 to accomodate a Front Range GP9 shell. The newer motors on the blue-box Athearns are anrrow enough to accomodate proper-width shells. Only if you have an older Athearn with the wider motor is swapping motors an issue.

Thanks. I guess my familiarity was with the really old Athearn BB models. I sold my old Athearn geeps several years ago and replaced them all with P2K geeps...and I repowered them with can motors, too.

Haven't repowered any of my P2K engines, since they run well for my uses. How do yours run with the new can motors?
