I am wondering if anyone has powered up a tender for a steam locomotive. I have some old steam locos that were tender driven and they no longer work. If you have done this could you share with me how you did this.'
thanks

Hello,
The easiest way to accomplish this is to look for Tyco's Chatanooga (2-8-0) engine/tender sets. Find them on eBay, garage sales, and train shows. They go pretty cheap. The tender shell is a Mantua casting and would look OK behind larger locos. I suspect you know what these tenders look like. So can recognize the drive system.

The problem is this. They are all tyco chatanoogas and their performance stinks, I was hoping someone had come up with another way to repower them?

gear the drive axle, bore out the inside, you can put a motor in that thing,
Youc an also get a chassie out of somehting else and stick it under the shell.
either way,t he specturm 2-8-0 is cheaper and looks better, in the lon grun. Runs nice too.

Nelson, this guy makes these conversions by putting a can motor in the engine.
