Hi all, especially the Aussies
I am looking for suppliers of Atlas Code 83 flex track in Australia. I would like to compare the local cost with bring 25 lengths in from the U.S. With the cost of postage, the local price could be comparable.
I did find that Casula Hobbies in Sydney have Peco Code 75 flex at $159.00 per box of 25. I figured if Atlas code 83 was less than this it could be good value (well good local value anyway).
Oh, and this is going to used in my hidden staging - everything else will be hand laid.
Cheers

Bruce,
Why not wait until the October long weekend and go the the exhibition at Liverpool. I still think you wont be able to beat buying online from USA
Here is a link to details of the exhibition

Thanks for that Paul, I might just do that smile.gif I have waited this long to get my A into G...
As for online - the cheapest I have been able to find 25 pieces of Atlas code 83 is U$60 odd dollars. Add U$25-30.00 for airmail and we are heading towards A$120.00+ (at 0.69 exchange rate) - not much difference really.
Cheers

Bruce, $159 v $120 is pretty significant, really.... Especially for something you wont have a high risk of 'returning' due to damage etc. That sort of difference would be negligible for a loco or something, but its a gulf of difference on track.
Give Brian a call at Junction Models (www.junctionmodels.com.au) and haggle with him graemlins/220.gif

I think that buying local is good for somethings, but when you can save $100's its hard to buy from your local dude. But the if its broken issue is a good one for something like track I would guess.

Hi Guys
It turns out that I need 35 lengths of flex track to satisfy my hidden staging requirements. I phoned a number of local guys and they could not come close to getting it from the US.....until I phoned Joe at Casula Hobbies in Sydney. Joe has given me a price of AUD$5.00 per stick, landed in Aussie. The best US price I could find was U$2.75 (min order of 10) which, once postage and exchange rate were factored in, resulted in pretty much exactly the same price - so Joe will get my order.
Joe is a really nice guy and is in the hobby to help the hobbyist as much as possible. I urge you to give him a call if you need anything, you might be pleasently surprised. You can see his website at http://casulahobbies.com.au or you can give him a call on (02) 9602 8640.
BTW, I am in no way associated with Casula Hobbies - just a very satisfied patron and believer in Joe's principles.
Cheers

Les,
I thought the shop had already closed???? I used to visit regularly actually i have been a customer there for 30 years when Jim first had the shop in Punchbowl.
These days most of my purchases are done either through Ebay or online stores such as wig wags

G'day Bruce. I too do a lot of buying through Ebay and online stores especially USA because delivery time is better than here and the aussie dollar was at 80cents really made it worthwhile. I spoke with David when I went down to the Sydney Show and he said shop will be there till xmas probably. Jim started me off in this hobby with my first purchase being an Atlas SD24.. Regards Les
