Hey guys, I useally hang out on the N scale board, cause thats what I model, but im looking for a Locomotive project to detail and paint, and i would like to try my hand with a HO scale Locomotive because of the wider selection of detail parts and the size of the trains. I was thinking of something along the lines of a SD38, SD45 or somekind of second or third generation EMD. I really dont even care about roadnames, I just want something bright, i need a break from the green and black that graces my life. Anyways One of the reasons im doing this is cause the Marines dont seem to think they need to provide me with a big enough room for a layout. So im hopeing this little project keeps me occupied for a while. I am planing on doing a lot of detailing and was even thinking of makeing this Proto 87. So if any of you have any sugjestions let me know. Oh so far my ideas are a N/D brake CNW SD45, a EJ&E SD38 (-2?), or a Frisco unit of somekind. Thanks.

If you want 'bright', I love the Chessie System scheme with the stylised cat logo (I had to say that - he's on my lap and 'insisted'). Plenty of locos to choose from and for superdetailing there were some really 'weathered' units around in later years smile.gif

Gee, I'd probably go for the EJ&E SD38. That should keep you amused doing the mods. I don't think you will find too many of those around.

Have a look at http://eje.railfan.net/ in the photo gallery for Photos by Neal - Locomotives 1 - nice low down top views of the SD38.

With all that photographic detail, it is crying out to be modeled!
