Can any of you out there tell me whether or not the new GP60s run similarly to the SD60s or do they actually run quicker overall?

I love my E6, but hate the speed range of the SD60----if the GP60s run faster than I will certainly be interested.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The GP60's haven't hit yet, at least not here; the word I got from Proto was they should ship soon. My guess, though, is they'll re-use their existing 4-axle EMD truck, with new sideframes correct for the GP60. If that's the case, it should run more or less the same as their other Geeps, which in turn run faster than the SD60 or other six-axle units, which have different gearing. However, the lighting circuitboards between most of the geeps are different, affecting the starting voltages. Once the boards are yanked, though, they should run together.

The SD60's don't seem to run any faster on DCC - but I have not done a side by side comparison. The top speed should be around 50 scale mph, but from my (totally unscientific) test, they seem to go about 12" per second - 60 mph.

I lower the top speed on all my locomotives to an approximate 60 smph and can quite happily consist just about anything to my SD60s (which get full VMAX)
