My Athearn U30B wheels have serous corroson problems and are rusting badly. I was woundering what I should use to replace them.
Also I do not wish to repower the unit. The stock Athearn motor/drivetrain/trucks have been extensively modifyed and runs great. (katoish other than the wheels)

Are these the stock wheels?

What about NWSL replacements? I heard somewhere they don't pull as much, but i haven't seen that personally...

i have replaced several locos with NWSL and unless you run really long trains the loss of traction is not really noticable, if you do find your losing 2 much just add another loco.... http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif

Athearn wheels really get that goop on em though... The NWSL don't do that.

As soon as i get some P:87 wheelsets for some locomotives i'll try to get some pics up of them with DW bearing caps mounted to the axle to actually spin in use... Really nifty!

NWSL-expensive, but look good.

I have seen them, and used them, and basically have the same comments as the MONK to make.

Stay Good!
