Well, after lots of speculation and rumors, it's official. Check out www.atlasrr.com/highlights/hogp38.asp (http://www.atlasrr.com/highlights/hogp38.asp) for all the details. I won't need as many of these as I will for their GP40's, but I can see some Chessie/SBD/B&O/CSX run-through units in my future......

Nice to see they're releasing one lettered for the Alaska Railroad. Now I don't have to worry about painting one myself...

Dane,
According to the release from Atlas, it's gonna run from $119 to $129, US. I would
imagine you could get a better deal from a mail-order firm (Std. Hobby Supply, for example).
Start savin' up them pennies now! (LOL)

Something I noticed- the new GP38 is supposed to come out in New England Central
colors (a former RailTex propoery, now owned by RailAmerica). Is this the first diesel to be issued in shortline livery (aside from Bachmann's Spectrum 70-tonners) straight from the manufacturers?

They should do a Pumpkinized CSX unit... Like 9699. They should make a pumpkin of both the GP38 and the 40.

Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System

You'll never be able to run it now- 9699 has
been retired, and will go to the B&O Museum.
TRAINS Magazine tagged this engine as the All-American diesel locomotive, when it was
B&O/Chessie 3802.
But then again.....maybe you could.. http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif

After looking at this locomotive, it may be a
great starting point for a Frisco GP38AC.
And since Frisco had 146 GP38s in the AC and
Dash 2 models..... http://www.trainboard.com/wink.gif
I'm already up to 10, and I figure I'll
need 15 or so to get a good representation.
