(Fictitious)- END OF THE LINE FOR THE F's?
After more and more problems with cracked headers and worn out trucks, it may be the end of the line for the 15 F7's and F3's on the WT&C.
Number 2203 stumbled into Edd with major smoking problems on saturday, and was quickly replaced by 2681, ex-CSX #23 and Q-444 continuedon to Huntington, the results of the inspection were devestating. Cracked headers, broken pistons, and steaming drive columns, similar problems were reprted on 2208,2212, and 2200 oficials say the will most likely be traded in for 10 rebuilt SD40-2's from EMD. The 25 Ex-DT&I GP7-9's are going to London, Ontario to be rebuilt for a longer life-span. and will be equipped with AC radial trucks. The only BL2 #100 is under consideration to join the 25 GP7/9's on May, 1st on their journe to canada.

BC Rail just completed there buy out of
Great Western
Taikdo
Some Russian RR
UP
BNSF
CP
CN
HBR (Hudsons Bay)
E&NR
SRY
Wharves
Via Rail Canada
RaiLink
MRL

and has said every thing is going smoothly. BCR followed UPs lead and fired every one from the other RR, and used only there staff to move trains. At current time only 6 box cars have moved in a 24 HRS period. Paul Tellier has said he is happy with the deal, and that BCR has done a much better job with the buy out than CN or BNSF ever would.
Via owner Jean however you spell his last name, said that this merger has made transport in Canada much easier, and when asked what he thought about track being abbandond he replied "We are talking about Railroads, Canadian Pacific isn't a RR, its a hotel!"
All 126 diesels of BCR have started to be redployed to various locoations, however it has been found that it is a challenge to get them to England, so they will just abbondon the track there. All the Ex Via units were sold to Kool Aid so they could start their own passenger RR in the east.
All the BNSF units have been sold off to McDonalds, and will be included in Happy Meals.
All the CN equipment was burned as fast as possible.
CPR equipment was painted blue and dumped into Nanoose Bay to use for the US navies targets!!

More details as they come....

CSXT has just completed there buyout of the BCR comglomerate listed above, and almost every other railroad in the world and has renamed them selfs CHESSIE SYSTEM. Chessie has also purchesed EMD to provide locomotives for the gigantic railroad. All ex BCR power was repainted in chessie and all the GE's of the world were quickly sold to The US armed forces (for target practice but they seem to be to easy to shoot because of all the smoke they generate) some GEs are being kept for stressed out people to take out there anger on (Chessie also gave free slege hammers to hit them with).

Delaide, NY
-today- for immediate release.
Mr. Reginald Blauvelt, superintendent of the Delaide, Leight & Wrekked RailRoad announced today that in the interest of safety and modernazation, the operating department will begin installing lighted and operating switchstand lights on all main line turn-outs. Blauvelt noted that this innovation will take aproximately two years
and is only a part of the master plan to "bring our vital transportation link into the 20th century." Blauvelt further noted that schedules will be tightened and passengers will find a smoother ride with fewer stops between stations.
Initial reports from the engineers have been enthusiastic.

In a related story, Tomar Industries of Benton Harbor, Michigan announced Friday the sale of 50 of their model H-851 Illuminated switch stands to the Delaide Leight & Wrekked RailRoad. Mr. Worthington Pump, Executive Vice President for Sales said that his company was proud to part the DL&W plan and hopes to continue the relationship far into the future.

The Orca Mountain RR proudly announces the addition of 10 dieselized GG-1s to its locomotive roster. These classic electric locomotives served for almost 50 years with the Pennsy, Penn Central and Amtrak until their retirement. It was thought that they sufered from extensive frame cracks due to their advanced age, and were thus offered at near scrap-metal prices. Our engineers carefully studied the x-rays, and discovered the cracks were only on the outer surface, and that there were actually many miles of service left in these nobel beasts. A large number of powerful and unused diesel engines were purchased at a government auction for a song. The resultant combination in our workshop produced these powerful, efficient locomotives for 1/3 the price of new locomotives of equal horsepower, and a classic locomotive rolls again in the beautiful mountains of Arizona. Two of these beauties can pull any passenger or freight train up our steapest grades.

Interwest Rail System (IWRS) announces its intention to merge with Dakota Minnesota and Eastern (DME).
IWRS will assist DME with the Powder River Basin Line Expansion, as well as rebuild the track to IWRS Code 1 (which allows 75mph freight and up to 110mph passenger).
Less than 1 year after the merger with Conrail, which went smoother than expected, ontime percentage is at 96.7%, 3.8% higher than 1998, and 1.2% higher than 1999.
Revenue continues to grow, especially in the intermodal, paper/timber, and coal sectors.
Amtrak remains pleased with IWRS performance, saying "...IWRS track is the smoothest and best maintained, and allows Amtrak passenger trains to attain the best possible speed. IWRS's ontime percentage for Amtrak trains is the highest in the industry at 98.7%.....the cooperative spirit with which IWRS responds to problems, percieved problems, and issues is to be commended..."
On the locomotive front, IWRS announces an order for 250 more C44's, 50 AC44's, 150 AC60's from General Electric, to be built at the local Preston Locomotive Works. Delivery to start in October of 2000, with final delivery by the end of 2001.

After being reunited with his locomotive by whatever that old witches name is, Dane has purchased the MCRS when no one was looking. He took the pride of the fleet, the SD45 and painted it Pink with Yellow spots! Dane also planted a NS logo square on the centre of the nose as he knew it would make the Chessie start to hisssss at him! He then proceed to order GEs and paint them Yellow and Pink. EBCRL was also reaquired by Dane N, however he did add intermodal, a major change for the Link!

For immediate Release:
Interwest Rail System announces 1st Quarter Financial results.
For the first quarter of FY2000, Revenue was $568 million. Net Revenue was $144 million. Expected Revenue was $475 million, with net revenue of $90 million.
Increased revenue came from increased train speeds as the result of the grade separation of over 300 crossings in 1999, with another 400 scheduled for completion in 2000.
With all IWRS lines to be completely grade seperated by 2002, revenue and traffic growth should continue.
IWRS stock is at $158.25 per share as of Wednesday's close, up $5.40 per share.
In other financial news, IWRS will have a 5-for-1 stock split on June 2, for all shareholders of record as of April 28th. This is in response to the strong climb of IWRS common stock. IWRS believes the split will enable more people to buy at a less expensive price than the current price allows. The stock has risen over 100 points since the last split in November, and currently is trading at $150+ per share.

A map was found archived in Normal, Illnois, showing interchange points around the Toledo area, c 1952.

Although operation on the Maumee and Cuyahoga was not included, there are fourteen flags shown on the map, including the Toledo Terminal RailRoad. TTRR was operated by C&O, through the Chessie days.

Maumee and Cuyahoga wasn't the only line that didn't appear on the map. Two other pikes, Michigan Road (MR) and Maumee River System (MRS) were also missing from the map.

MR was the parallel link with NYC's Michigan Central to Blissfield; MRS was redundant to Wabash and NKP out to Ft Wayne.

MR and MRS were to have joined when Toledo Union Terminal opened but an editorial in the Toledo Blade emtitled "Why would anyone want to leave Toledo?" raised public opinion against any railway that went to Michigan or Indiana.

Of course, there was a long-held belief that Michigan and Ohio never ratified the agreement establishing their state line. The first cartographer in the area presumed the Maumee River would be the southern limit of the Michigan Territory. Michigan and Ohio were so incensed by the competition over Toledo the two states raised militia and there were border skirmished between the Ottawa River and Maumee River, to determine whether Mochigan or Ohio would have Toledo in their territory when statehood was declared.

Of course, as everyone knows, Ohio lost.

The A&A will retire the last 5 remaining U25B s in June because of a major derailment on April 28th, 2000. U25B # 6003and 6005 were haulung a 60 car coal train around a sharp and steap grade-turn the 3 helpers in the back were EMD GP38-2 s .(There had always been problems that the GE U25B s had 8 notches and the EMD s had 16, and responded to ONLY the even numbered notches. ) The engineer pulled the throttle down to the 3rd notch as the the rear EMDs didn't respond. The helpers pushed the middle of the train off the rails and before the rookie engineer noticed, he put the throttle up to five and the helper engines didn't respond causing 45 of the 60 cars to climb the rails and roll down the mountainside takingone of the helpers with them . the lead 2 engines were thrown off the rails and landed on there side at a heavily used grade crossing in downown Windy Tunnel.

M&CRS to retire last GP38-2
M&CRS is planing on retiring there last GP38-2 after a it was FRA bad ordered. The unit which is wearing a heavly faded ATSF paint with markings painted out and a piece of metal in primer where the dynamic brakes were removed was built in the mid 1990s
by lifelike products licened by EMD. the unit's poor drive and traction tires caused it to imedatley fall out of favor with upper management. The unit was modifyed with its dynamics removed for switching but the drive was left alone. M&CRS is pondering the possiblity of turning the unit into a control cab.

CHAT PILE LINE REPORT April 30, 1976

Oklahoma & North Eastern has announced plans to lease Missouri Pacific's Carthage Branch from Joplin to Carthage, MO. MP had
announced its intent to embargo the line in
preparation for abandonment, citing low traffic levels. The remaining online shippers
and O&NE (who presently interchanges with MP in Joplin) expressed concern over the loss of this line, and the subsequent loss of rail service. The lease is pending ICC approval, but no problems are expected, and
no other bids have been submitted to either
MP or the ICC.
In Miami, B.F. Goodrich has completed its plant expansion in response to its increased
share in the tire industry. O&NE expects to
handle more cars from this facility, which al
ready requires daily service.
Joplin District Terminal has leased its sole motive power, NW2 4692, to Empire Dist-
rict Electric Cooperative for use at the Riv-
erton power plant, The locomotive will be used to switch loaded coal hoppers in, and empty coal hoppers out. Coal is supplied to EDEC Riverton from Peabody Coal near Catale, OK, and is shipped on the St. Louis-San Francisco by a mini-unit train. O&NE has loaned RS11 1801 to JDT in return to handle Joplin switching. JDT is a subsidiary of the
O&NE.
In other motive power news, former Frisco
RS2M 552 has arrived on the property, the first re-engined Alco on the roster. Still in Frisco black & white, the "morphodite", as
it is unflatteringly called by both SLSF and
O&NE crews alike, will be used in both local
switching service and road service. Although
O&NE officials have stated previously their
affinity for Alco locomotives, this is an in-
teresting choice. 552 joins GE 44-tonner 4 and RS1 102, both in Frisco black & yellow
colors.
Caboose 2 is in the paint shops in preparation for its Bicentennial paint job.
The former Northeast Oklahoma caboose was purchased from a scrapyard in Kansas for sentimental reasons (this line is the former
NEO), and will join Frisco and Katy as one of several red, white & blue hacks on the rails.
There have been rumors that one of O&NE's
locomotives will be painted into the former
Northeastern Oklahoma colors of maroon & light gray, but no official word yet from GM
R.J. Thompson.
The IPD boxcar business continues to boom,
as 100 50-foot boxcars in O&NE blue & yellow
now roam the rails, earning revenue for the
line. ONE officials state as long as the program is successful, and the need for boxcars is great, the railroad will continue
to participate in this program.

The A&A railroad have just recieved the 25 GP7/9s from Ontario from bein rebuilt by EMD. also, the A&A sent their only BL2 along for rebuilding.the new features includes: Upgraded Dynamic Brakes, Radial trucks, all new wiring. Modern "office desk" style control board. Electric Bell, EMD Standard 4-chime air horn. debris plow. Fiber optic lights, and a upgraded engine fron 2,800 HP to 3,500 hp. The BL2 had the same thing done but, also had major frame repairs. Also with the business increasing dramatically, the A&A will buy 10 SD80MACs. The A&A borrowed 5 from CSX to test. The A&A is going to start the tearing up of the old Dusty Mountain subdivision next week. Rumor were several ghost are located at the mouth of the Hult hill Tunnel, it started in 1903 when an engineer had his brakeman go back along the train to investigate a hissing sound from the third car. the Brakeman stuck his head under the car to look with his lantern and the play let go in the cars and cut his head off. it is said to be a ghost to Scream loudly when a train passes by. Another is set in 1972 when 5 14 year old boys were walking the Railroad traks to one of the boys house, as they walked around a turn, there was a long, but low trussel infront of then that was part of a blind, fast curve. a through-freight came right at them at 40 mph 4 boys ran but one jumped down the 4 feet high trussel. the four boy on the bridge were runover. the engineer commited suicide and the brakeman was thrown from the train. He was bruised, but not injured, the one boy had an arm and an eyeball landbside ofhim, he freaked out and had a mental problem to this day. another happened in 1996, the A&A had abandoned the line 3 years earlier but an older lady in her 60 's was walking up the tracks with her husband when a 3 three engines that were running without a train about 25mile per hour, the engineer said he hit the brakes and ran out on the front porch of the lead SD40-2 when he saw them, and started to yell to get out of the way, the train hit them before he ever got out of the door way. The A&A abandoned the line because of all the paranormal activity in the area, such as one conductor recalled seeing a small UFO about the size of a "95 Ford F-150 pickup truck land in the empty gondola ahead of the caboose he was in. he ent out side and climbed in to the car after he reprted the sighting to the engineer and told him to contact the dispatcher and stop the train he took pictures of it but when the photos were developed, nothing showed up one them the whole crew were put in ASYLUM in Charleston,WV they wrere inthere for about 2 weeks and finally wer put through a lie-detector test, and they all passed, but unfortunately, they wer=e all crazy from just the thought of livin the rest of there live in an asylum.

B.F. Goodrich, a manufacturer of tires, has announced the expansion of its Miami, OK plant has been completed, thus allowing the facility to increase production. The increased production will mean more traffic for O&NE in Miami.
The increased traffic has put a strain on the motive power fleet, and has put the
railroad in the market for used Alco power.
The search is on for another RS3 or perhaps
an RS11 to be used on road trains. ANy reasonable offers will be considered.

Orca Mountain RR GG-1 update: The ten dieselized GG1s, now designated "GG-1Ds" have been measured as producing 4700 hp at 45mph on a 2 percent grade. Fears that the GG-1Ds were haunted because engineers were hearing ocean wave sounds were allayed when it was found that the government surplus diesels had served aboard Navy warships. Passenger service news: OMRR purchased over three dozen passenger cars at a secret sale sponsered by nine major and minor railroads. It was announced that the beautiful cars would NOT be repainted for some time so that railfans could enjoy the rich variety of road names representeded in the purchase. It is likely that the same policy will be followed with newly aquired freight cars as well. "We at OMRR are all railfans, and many more live in and visit this area. Lets enjoy the rich history of our rolling stock!" enthused RR president Curt Vernon

Train AKWH-2 (Akron Wheeling 2) was being pulled by ex SP C44-9W 8102 and borrowed Chessie U30B 8212. The 20 car train was accending a short 2 percent grade at 30 MPH when the lead unit 8212 had electrical problems. The crew Isolated the unit and moved to 8102's cab to push the unit to the next siding in order to put 8102 in the lead. After about a mile 8102 goes into emergency. The crew later finds that the units fuel injection system has gone out. As rescue power M&C sends ex BN SD45 6473 in order to pull the two dead units and the train to the next siding. Unfortunately the SD45 starts smoking like crazy and then starts leaking oil. Now the train has 3 dead units and is on a grade. M&C sends out a technition to see if any of the units can be repaired on the road. Fortunately 8102's fuel injection problems is found to be a minor clog in a hose. After replacing the hose the unit is stuck in the lead and pulls the train the rest of the way to wheeling

EMD Motive Power for the Chat Pile Line?

Two chopnosed GP7s from Texas affiliate Okla-
homa, Red River and Texas have been spotted
on O&NE property, The Lone star visitors are
being used while two of O&NE's Alcos are in the shop for prime mover repairs. According to chief mechanical officer P.U. Nethgil, the
locomotives (1836 and 1845) are not a forecast of future motive power acquisitions.
When asked about the spare 16-567 engine block beside the Miami shop, as well as the
RS2M now on the roster, Nethgil declined to
comment, claiming "time for my coffee break".

In the spirit of improving relations with Russia, and improving high speed rail service, the United States government has announced a plan to offer high speed rail service between Seattle and Moscow by building a bridge across the Bering Strait. Although the train will average 110 mph on its trip, the distance between the two cities is so great that it will take a full week to complete the trip. Rather than rely on the standard Amtrak sleepers (generally used as short term accomodations) currently used in the US, the government is taking bids to see who will build SUPER Superliners. The SUPER Superliners will be like a hotel on rails, designed to be used one week at a time by intercontinental rail passengers. The cost of building high speed track across Russia and through Alaska, Canada, and Washington State, the bridge across the Strait, and the equipment needed to keep a schedule is estimated to double the US national debt. Although US taxpayers will be footing the bill for this project, the Russian government has said that they would help pay for it if they weren't dirt poor. This will be Amtrak's first attempt at actually turning a profit. It is unclear how many people will abandon air travel and use the new high speed line to travel to Moscow, but the government has indicated anti-trust lawsuits to be filed against airlines that have flights to Moscow if ridership on the train is not high enough to turn a profit. The original plan also included high speed freight service to Moscow, but Transportation Department abandoned this part of the plan when they realized that Russia has nothing to sell, nor any money to buy anything with. Amtrak hopes to have trains running as soon as 2010.

Associated Press--Denver, 1890. The management of the Colorado and Southwestern Railway and Land Company have announced the official opening of their La Plata line, listed as a subsidiary of the Colorado and Midland. The standard gauge was begun as a means of reaching the gold district of La Plata nearly five years ago. Troubles in the first few miles slowed work, causing the delay. Regular sevice will begin this summer, with the grand opening set for July 4, 1890. For more information contact the management at http://www.jstrainstation.homestead.com

Although the line was designed to move ore out of that mountainous region, and supplies in, the management are certain that passenger service will equal any goods revenue. A spokesman for the railroad, Mr. Giv Memoneyman, states that the passenger service is "unparalleled by any in the west, and views are better than any line in the Great State of Colorado." Ticket sales have been quite high in anticipation of the opening of the line, and advanced registration is recommended.

I truly love this thread. This is one I come back to when I need a giggle.I'm amazed at the level of knowledge/creativity I find in here. I haven't figured out how to center/justify yet, but here goes. (I'm an analog in a Digital environment) C.E.O. Announces End to Right-Of-Way negotiations. Paying homage to what he characterized as a "praiseworthy refusal" to interject a final offer into the proceedings, the C.E.O. of Siwini Railroad anounced today that an agreement had been reached with the owners of the Butte-Foothills Rancheria for an easment to facilitate the building of a rail line, extending from the current site of the lumber mill at Feather Falls, north and east into the Sierra-Nevada foothills.
Not to be confused with the Western Pacific Railroad, the Siwini Railroad only intends occupying any given area until the marketable timber has been harvested. To this end a new Shay locomotive has been ordered with an anticipated delivery in January. Use of a Shay locomotive is expected to save money, as it spreads 120 tons on six axles vice 100 tons on four axles for the EMD unit the RR currently owns.(less stringent construction standards)
Construction is expected to begin on the RR at the end of the fire season.(early fall, but no later than Oct.15)

Dateline August 16 197x.

The Gauley River Railroad (a joint venture between Conrail and the N&W)is upgrading and installing new track along its mainline. Due to the anticipated hi tonnage and heavy traffice, 155lb rail is being used.

Meanwhile two locomotives that had been specifically assigned to the GRR by the N&W are being leased to New England Rail. These units are GE C30-7s 8072 and 8025. These units are expected to return after the fall rush of traffic on the NER.
