View Full Version : Tomar Switchstand lamps

I have just purchased some Tomar lit switchstands. I know that a dropping resistor is needed in series between the bulb and the"juice". http://www.trainboard.com/confused.gifI have burned out two bulbs so far trying to get the right ohms. I think the bulbs are 1.9V at about 30ma. They look to be grain of rice or smaller. I putting them on 9+volts DC. (My switch machine power supply)
Any suggestions?

I'm surprised Tomar didn't cover this problem in the instructions. I quess I'll put off buying some of these switchstands until this problem is solved.

I logged onto another discussion group and found out the answer.

BTW get the Tomar switchstands, they really look good.

The answer is OHM's law E over I*R. E=voltage, I is the current in amps, and R is the resistance in ohms.

works out to about a 240ohm resistor, but when I get back home I'll test one and let you know.

I now have about 6 switchstand lamps wired up. WOW do they look good http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif.
I've linked 2 up to my Tortise machines and it's so cool when I hit the switch to see the light change from red to green. And because I'm only putting 9.5 volts into the Tortise it runs nice and slow.

I now understand why Tomar does not supply the resistors, they don't know what your supply voltage is.
