Hello Everyone--

Does anyone know if F7A and F7B units in the "Hiawatha" color scheme (orange/maroon) ever pulled Hiawatha (orange/maroon) smoothside passenger cars?

Thanks,
Steve Williams

There is a book about the MILW in the Dakota's, (can't remember the name right now), but there's a black and white photo showing the Olympian Hiawatha coming into a town in South Dakota with that color scheme on the F's, plus, i've seen other pic's. So that's a definite yes! With the MILW in the early to mid 50's, anything was possible!

EMD FP7's definately pulled the Hiawatha trains. There are several photo in the Milwaukee Road book by Fred Hyde showing an FP unit or two on a MILW passenger train. The FP's were often run with E units too.Later the FP45's also ran with E's and FP7's

Also, in the vol. #5, "The Pacific Extension 1941-1961" by William F. Stauss, pg.70 shows
FP-7's 105-c and 105-a arriving Spokane with a matching Olympian Hi, but they only worked between Deer Lodge and Othello 1952-1954 when the passenger GP-9's took over.

Yes. The FP units were obviously used. But, the question was of the F7A&B units.

Looking back thru the book,(which, by the way, is awesome!! Best one yet!:teeth:), there are alot of photo's with maroon and orange F's pulling passenger trains, but some I can't make out if they are F's or FP's. Probably will have to pull out a roster of engines and see if there are footnotes if any standard F's came with steam boilers, factory installed or otherwise.
