Number one kid has three Riverossi locomotives. 4-8-4 4-6-6-4 and 4-8-8-4 . The traction tires on all three keep slipping off the driver they are on. Anyone have a solution as to making them stay put. When they slip off the driver the tire gets tangled up in the valve gear and rods.
Sure would like those U.P. steamers running dependably.

Sorry to hear of the troubles you are having with the traction tires. You aren't alone...I have the same problems with mine. Traction tires? I've already sounded off here on previous threads. So, let's move to getting you some help.

Take a thin glue, I use a slow setting super glue aka cyanoacrylate. Apply to the metal wheels...a very lite application placed in a triangle. Place the TT's back over the wheel before the glue dries. For me this is the most effective way to get the job done.

I'm sure others can and will come to your rescue with other suggestions. Pick and choose what's easiest for you.

If they are old tyres they have probably lost their 'spring' and don't hold on tight. New ones should fix that.

Forget these Rivarossi traction tires. When getting older they became hard and slippery. Even when you get managed to fix the old tires, they will develop no effective traction force.

If you have the possibility to get them, replace the Rivarossi tires with those from Märklin. The second choice are tires are from Roco. But take care the tires for DC are made for 0.3mm groves and the tires for Roco AC models are made for 0.5mm groves.

These 0.5mm AC tires from Roco are the right ones to replace the worn out Rivarossi tires.
