Hi everybody!
I have only begun this hobby a couple of months ago. Now that I am completely addicted, I was wondering if any of you guys could suggest some good places to railfan in my area. I am north of Nashville, so I am looking in that general area. I have been to New Haven and Glendale, and Bardstown as well. Any suggestions???

Go the the CSX yard. It's off Harding and I65. Another access point to the yard is Nolensville and I440. When I was with Metro there in the 1990's, I got a chance to go to the yard quite often. Nice bunch of guys. Let them know what you are doing, and they will let you go just about any where in the yard.....try to be sneaky and they'll kick you off the property.

Oh...I should have siad, there is also a new communter train that runs from the Murfreesboro area into downtown. It's called the Music City Star. One way trips run about $5.00 with round trips going about $7.
They run F40PH's and Budd two deck passenger cars. I assume that they front end going out of town, and use the control cab for the run into town....

Bowling Green has a depot with exhibits you can visit, the main line is right behind it,might be tricky getting pictures, though.
If you can go to Louisville, get to the north end of Osborn Yard on Strawberry Ln(or is it Drive? I don't remember)

No I haven't, but to be honest it's just because there is so much here in Cincinnati (I'm about 25 miles north of Cincinnati) with the CSX yard and a major GE manufacturing plant....not to mention Proctor & Gamble. Rail traffic is very heavy here. :-) Oh....and there is a small tourist line just outside of my little town!

Bowling Green is a decent location...not a HUGE frequency of trains but the L&N depot with the passenger cars on display is really neat to see.
Madisonville KY is a good location... lots of trains and if planned right, you can see not only CSX trains but also Paducah and Louisville trains crossing above the CSX.
Also the Tennessee Central museum in Nashville is pretty neat (especially all the stored equipment out back).
Paducah is about 110 miles northwest... you can see a variety of trains there from UP, BNSF, P&L, Canadian National (IC) and occasionally some CSX.

I know a couple of people from Nashville,TN and ill check with them and see if they know of any groups around there.
Also you was saying you took some pictures. You know Trainboard has a thing called "RailImages" where you can upload photos for free correct?

The best bet to find a group is with the Tennessee Central Museum group. They regularly run weekend trips along the old TC. For Labor Day, Thomas will make his annual visit. Go to Tcry.org for more details.
The Music City Star commuter train uses the same TC tracks from downtown Nashville to Lebanon. One way for the whole route is $5.00 & $10 for a round trip. No charge for parking. You can get a ticket at a Kroger near the station. go to MusicCityStar.org for information.
The trains use an ex-Amtrak F40 pulling 2-3 gallery commuter cars from C&NW/Metra. Very nice ride for your $10. You can visit the Country Music Hall of Fame & other nearby attractions nearby or enjoy the Nashville riverfront area.
You can find the last Yellowjacket in Centennial Park. The Bicentennial park near the Capitol carries part of the old L&N/CSX mainline.
The mainline from Nashville/Radnor to Chattanooga is very busy.
